On February 24, 2015, Livingston Parish 9-1-1 dispatchers received a ‘robbery in progress' call from someone using a cell phone. The caller advised that 2 masked men entered a local retailer located on Highway 16 in Watson. Members of the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office responded with lights and sirens only to learn there was no evidence of a ‘robbery in progress'. This prank call came from an unidentified subject.
On February 25, 2015, Livingston Parish 9-1-1 dispatchers received another call of a ‘robbery in progress' at a local eatery located on Magnolia Beach Rd near La Hwy 16 in Denham Springs. The caller advised that masked men were entering the business. LPSO deputies responded in an emergency fashion only to learn there was no evidence of a ‘robbery in progress'. It was another prank call.
LPSO detectives launched an investigation into those calls. The LPSO learned both calls were made from the same cell phone number. Detectives were able to identify the person making the prank calls. He has been identified as Brandon K. Kirkland.
Kirkland told detectives that he was ‘rained out' from work and was ‘just playing around'. Kirkland did admit to making both prank calls. He was arrested on 2 counts of terrorizing. Kirkland is currently under the supervision of Louisiana State Probation & Parole for burglary convictions.
Sheriff Jason Ard says,'Prank calls can be a dangerous game. A real victim could need all of our resources in the event of a real emergency. It wastes time, it wastes resources. You can and will go to jail.'
