Warrant Division

| The Warrant Division includes five full-time staff members responsible for issuing all regular warrants based on public complaints and reports. “We determine if there is probable cause to issue the warrant, and then send the warrants on to the judge to get signed. We then issue the warrants to deputies both in Livingston Parish and from other law enforcement agencies in the state,” explains Deputy Janell Beregi, an 18-year veteran of the Warrant Division. “We also enter all the summonses and send them along with the arrest reports and bond records to the District Attorney at the end of each week.”
The Warrant Division is also responsible for handling all the bench warrants issued by the parish court for criminal and civil judgments, including warrants for delinquent child support, missed court appearances, etc. When the fine has been paid or the case has been dropped, the Warrant Division staff issues a warrant recall. The staff processes up to 100 regular warrants a week and approximately 600-800 bench warrants per month. Overseeing the bond process is another key area of responsibility for the Warrant Division staff. They prepare and process the certified bonds to bond someone out of jail and handle any bond remands in cases in which the bondholder no longer wants to be the guarantor of the bond. When a bond is remanded, the person must be re-arrested and the bond remand is sent back to the District Attorney’s Office with the re-arrest sheet. The Warrant Division staff handles an average of 1-2 bond remands per week. The Warrant Division includes two deputies who handle warrants pertaining to forgeries and NSF checks. They issue an average of 50 warrants per week for NSF checks based on evidence provided by local businesses. |
