Arrest for Impersonating an Officer
10/7/2015 2:43:45 PM

On October 5, 2015, dispatchers with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office received a cell phone call from a subject advising that he had performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding and passing violations on LA Hwy 1024 and Napoleon St in Livingston Parish.

Sheriff Ard advises that a member of LPSO's Uniform Patrol Division responded to the scene. Sheriff says, "Through investigation, we learned that Nathaniel D. Bankston of 10109 Chanel Dr. in Denham Springs conducted the traffic stop. Bankston was in his personal vehicle. That vehicle is equipped with lights and a siren. He actually deployed that siren to get the vehicle to pull over. Bankston was also wearing a shirt from the FBI Citizens Academy and a cap. Bankston was also found to be in possession of ‘special operations' credentials from the Department of Justice and commissions from West and East Baton Rouge Parishes. We were able to confirm that he was not a commissioned deputy in either parish.”

As the investigation progressed, a prescription bottle containing a Schedule IV CDS was found in Bankston's vehicle. The medication was located in a bottle belonging to someone other than Bankston.

Sheriff Ard says, "We removed the emergency lights and sirens from Bankston's vehicle and Mr. Bankston was placed under arrest.”

Bankston remains in the Livingston Parish Detention Center as of this writing. Please visit http://www.lpso.org/ and click on our ‘Inmate List' tool for more information.

The driver of the vehicle Bankston stopped was released at the scene.
